Dajuan Harris Lay-Up Lifts No. 9 Kansas Past No. 15 Iowa State

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Michigan State

Dajuan Harris Jr.’s layup with four seconds left lifted No. 9 Kansas to a 62-61 win over No. 15 Iowa State on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Jayhawks (13-2, 2-1 in Big 12) fought off a late surge by Iowa State (13-3, 1-3), as the Cyclones had a 59-58 lead with 36 seconds left after Caleb Grill’s jumper.

With 25 seconds remaining, Kansas guard Ochai Agbaji drew a foul and made both of his free throws to put Kansas back ahead by one, 60-59. That set up a frenetic final sequence.

The Cyclones took the lead with 16 seconds left after a jumper by Izaiah Brockington. The Jayhawks came to the other end of the floor, and eventually Harris drove into the paint for a layup with four seconds left.

Iowa State took the ball down the court immediately and got the ball to Gabe Kalscheur, who missed a potential game-winning jumper as the buzzer sounded.

Kansas welcomed home former head coach Roy Williams, who made his first visit to Allen Fieldhouse since his retirement from coaching. The Jayhawks also learned during the game that Baylor’s undefeated season came to an end, bringing the Bears back to the field in the Big 12.

Kansas was without starting guard Remy Martin due to injury, and head coach Bill Self started Jalen Wilson and KJ Adams, sliding Mitch Lightfoot to the bench.

Agbaji led Kansas with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Christian Braun scored 13 points and Harris added 12 points.

Brockington led the Cyclones with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kalscheur added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Tyrese Hunter scored 12 points and had a team-high five assists.

Iowa State has faced three ranked teams in four Big 12 games and has gone 1-2. The Cyclones host Texas on Saturday. Kansas, which bounced back from its loss to Texas Tech last Saturday, will host West Virginia this Saturday.
