Chubba Purdy Picks Nebraska Over Oklahoma

Chubba Purdy has caused quite the recruiting battle between former Big 8 foes over the past few weeks, and the battle came to an end on Monday afternoon. The former four-star recruit and Florida State quarterback has picked Nebraska over Oklahoma as his next home.
The dual-threat quarterback from Gilbert, Arizona was a hot commodity when he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal back in November and had narrowed his options down to the Sooners or Cornhuskers before taking official visits last week.
Purdy announced his decision on Twitter on Monday afternoon to the delight of “Big Red” fans everywhere. Here’s a look at the post.
Purdy will now battle it out with Texas transfer Casey Thompson for the starting job in 2022. With that duo, plus incoming freshman Richard Torres, Nebraska’s QB room is in the best position it’s been under Scott Frost.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma is still looking to add another quarterback alongside UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel. Caleb Williams is not expected to return to Norman and it leaves a massive hole in the roster after coming into the 2021 season with two five-star quarterbacks and another one in Malachi Nelson on the way.
Nick Evers, a four-star signee from Flower Mound, Texas, helps the roster tremendously and adds a piece for the future, but Oklahoma needs one more scholarship quarterback to feel good about its offense going into next season.
The Sooners are in play for USC transfer Jaxson Dart, and if they lose him to Ole Miss it wouldn’t be surprising for them to look elsewhere for depth.
