Brent Venables has secured his second transfer defensive back in 24 hours as former Louisville cornerback Kani Walker has announced his commitment to the Sooners for the 2022 season.
The former three-star recruit played in just one game as a true freshman with the Cardinals and will have all of his eligibility remaining when he suits up for Oklahoma.
Walker’s announcement comes about 18 hours after former Wyoming cornerback C.J. Coldon announced that he would dawn the Crimson and Cream next season as well.
Here is Walker’s announcement video on Monday morning via Twitter.
Listed on 247Sports at 6-foot-2 194-pounds, Walker has prototype size for a corner and is a promising piece for next season’s defense. His addition is likely not the last for the Sooners new-look defense that already has five new pieces going into next year: Kani Walker (Louisville), C.J. Coldon (Wyoming), Jonah Laulu (Hawaii), T.D. Roof (Appalachian State), and Jeffrey Johnson (Tulane).
Oklahoma has beaten out several SEC schools for the services of some of the more talented Group of Five defenders in the portal and looks to continue that trend as classes start back up for the spring semester. It may not seem like it now, but Oklahoma is headed towards being a defensive school again, which is something I never thought I would write coming into the 2021 season.
