ESPN’s ‘College Gameday’ Headed to Lawrence for Kansas vs Kentucky

NCAA Basketball: George Mason at Kansas

ESPN’s College Gameday is typically synonymous with a Saturday morning and a full slate of college football to preview. Well, not so fast my friend.

Gameday is headed to Lawrence, Kansas for the meeting of true basketball bluebloods: Kansas vs. Kentucky.

The Gameday crew will set up in Allen Fieldhouse on January 29th to show the premier game of the Big 12/SEC Challenge and will air from 10:00-11:00 am CT.

The Jayhawks and Wildcats are set to tip at 5:00 pm CT in a meeting of Top-25 teams. Kansas, ranked No. 7 in the land, is fresh off of a 67-64 victory over Oklahoma in Norman, while the 12th-ranked Wildcats are set to play a dangerous 15-2 Texas A&M team on Wednesday.

10 days from now, “The Phog” will be rocking in what should be an electric atmosphere for a regular-season matchup of hardwood heavyweights. In 33 meetings all-time, Kentucky holds the advantage with a 23-10 record. Interestingly, these two teams sit atop the list for all-time wins in college basketball and the margin is quite narrow.

Kentucky is the winningest basketball program in history, with 2,341 wins, but Kansas is nipping at their heels with 2,338 wins. Just three games back from the record, Bill Self’s squad has a chance to surpass the Wildcats this season if they can just keep winning. At 15-2, and currently, atop the Big 12 standings, Kansas should continue to do just that.
