Baylor, Kansas and Texas Tech all saw their stock rise in the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25, released on Monday, ahead of the Kansas-Texas Tech game.
Meanwhile, Iowa State took a steep drop and one Big 12 team fell out of the poll entirely.
The AP Top 25 included the following Big 12 teams:
No. 4 Baylor (the Bears were No. 5 last week);
No. 5 Kansas (The Jayhawks were No. 7 last week);
No. 13 Texas Tech (The Red Raiders were No. 18 last week).
No. 23 Iowa State (The Cyclones were No. 15 last week);
Texas received 61 votes (The Longhorns were No. 23 last week);
TCU received six votes.
Kansas (16-2, 5-1 in Big 12) won both of its games last week, defeating Oklahoma, 67-64, and Kansas State, 78-75. The Jayhawks had to erase a 16-point lead at halftime against Kansas State. The Jayhawks start the week with a Big Monday game against Texas Tech at 8 p.m., followed by Saturday’s home game against Kentucky in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
Baylor (17-2, 5-2) responded after losing its first two games of the season by winning both games last week. The Bears beat West Virginia, 77-68, and Oklahoma, 65-61. The Bears start this week with a Tuesday home game against Kansas State and then follow that with a trip to Alabama on Saturday for the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
Iowa State (14-5, 2-5) is sliding fast after losing both of its games last week. The Cyclones fell to Texas Tech, 72-60, and then lost to TCU, 59-44. Texas Tech (15-4, 5-2) had a 2-0 week, as the Red Raiders beat Iowa State, 72-60, and then beat West Virginia, 78-65. Both games were in Lubbock, and the Red Raiders hit the road to face Kansas on Monday. The Red Raiders won the first meeting. Then, on Saturday, the Red Raiders host Mississippi State in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
Texas (14-5, 4-3) split last week, too. The Longhorns hosted Kansas State and lost, 66-65, and followed that with a home win against Oklahoma State, 56-51. Texas begins this week with a trip to TCU on Tuesday, followed by hosting Tennessee on Saturday for the Big 12-SEC Challenge.
The entire poll featured No. 1 Auburn, No. 2. Gonzaga, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Purdue, No. 7 (tie) UCLA, No. 7 (tie) Houston, No. 9 Duke, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 14 Villanova, No. 15 USC, No. 16 Ohio State, No. 17 Providence, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 19 LSU, No. 20 UConn, No. 21 Xavier, No. 22 Marquette, No. 23 Iowa State, No. 24 Illinois and No. 25 Davidson.
