Texas Leads Three Big 12 Teams in Baseball America’s Preseason Top 25

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Tennessee v Texas

College Baseball is just around the corner as we are just a few weeks away from the start of the season. Last season was a memorable one as Mississippi State won it all claiming their first national championship in school history by defeating powerhouse Vanderbilt in a best of three series.

As the defending national champion, the Texas Longhorns take the No. 1 spot in Baseball America’s top 25 preseason rankings.

While Mississippi State beat Texas on their road to the title, the Longhorns are bringing back quite a few key pieces from last year’s team including two ace pitchers in Tristan Stevens and Tanner Witt.

The Longhorns were ranked as the preseason number one team by D1Baseball.com and now get another number one nod by Baseball America.

Outside of Texas, there were two other Big 12 programs making the list. The Oklahoma State Cowboys check in at No. 19 while the Texas Tech Red Raiders come in at No. 23.

All three of the Big 12 teams in the top 25 have some big-time early games ahead. Oklahoma State opens their 2022 season with a three game road series against Vanderbilt who is ranked as the number two team in the country. Meanwhile Texas Tech opens their season in Arlington for the State Farm College Baseball Tournament where they will play Michigan, Auburn and Arizona. While Michigan and Auburn are not ranked, the Arizona Wildcats are a top fifteen team.

As for Texas, they will host Rice for a three-game set and not long after that they will be down in Houston for the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. There they will face Tennessee, LSU, and UCLA. All three of those teams are ranked in Baseball America’s top 25.
