Drew Steffe Announces Commitment to Texas Tech Basketball

Mark Adams

Drew Steffe became the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ first commitment for the 2023 recruiting class, as he announced his commitment on social media.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas, posted his commitment to Twitter and also did an interview with Stadium’s Jeff Goodman to announce his intention to play for the Red Raiders.

The junior is rated as a four-star player by 247Sports.com and is ranked as the nation’s No. 69 recruit.

Steffe told Goodman that his Top 5 choices were Tech, Saint Louis, TCU, Xavier and Colorado.

Steffe’s commitment is non-binding. The earliest he can sign with the Red Raiders is during the early signing period in November.

Steffe went to Lubbock last weekend for an official visit and told 247Sports that Texas Tech has “the greatest fans I have ever seen in my life. Their fanbase is crazy.”

The interview with Goodman came on the heels of Goodman saying during a podcast that Lubbock was “the worst job in the Big 12” while, during the same podcast, trying to explain why he was wrong about Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams’ potential for success with the Red Raiders this season.

While Texas Tech lost in double overtime to Kansas on Monday, the Red Raiders are 15-5 overall, 5-3 in the Big 12, and are poised to return to the NCAA Tournament in Adams’ first season.

Earlier this year, former Texas freshman Jaylon Tyson committed to transferring to the Red Raiders for next season. Tyson was formerly committed to Texas Tech last spring before Chris Beard left the Red Raiders for Texas. Tyson followed Beard to Texas but left the program in December.

According to 247Sports, the Red Raiders are also in the running for two other Class of 2023 recruits, Elijah Fisher and Jaland Lowe. Fisher is the No. 17 recruit in the 2023 Class out of Crestwood Prep in Toronto. Lowe is a top 150 recruit out of Missouri City, Texas.
