Former Baylor guard MaCio Teague tweeted that Kansas has ‘the best gym in the country’ on Monday afternoon in response to someone who covers Kentucky basketball.
Teague, who is playing in the G League with the Salt Lake City Stars, which is affiliated with the Utah Jazz, retweeted a video tweet from Tres Terrell. Terrell’s bio notes that he is affiliated with a site called Catscoverage.com, which offers coverage of the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky, of course, beat Kansas, 80-62, on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Terrell’s tweet read “That’s not true. Kentucky isn’t everyone’s Super Bowl.”
The tweet then showed a video clip of the Kansas student section from that game with another caption reading “Every Kentucky road game:”
Teague, in a case of odd Big 12 bedfellows, took a moment out of his day to let everyone know that, well, that’s every game at Allen Fieldhouse.
“This is every Kansas home game. Rock Chalk has the best gym in the country.”
Baylor fans probably aren’t that thrilled to hear that. But, Teague’s tweet has truth to it. Two members of the Heartland College Sports staff have made trips to Allen Fieldhouse this year — one for a non-conference game against Stephen. F. Austin and another to last week’s double-overtime thriller against Texas Tech. Both staff members wrote about and podcasted about the experience.
The conclusion? The gameday experience at Kansas is second to none, and it doesn’t matter the opponent.
The Jayhawks are on the road Tuesday night at Iowa State, but return home on Saturday to host Baylor in a Top 25 matchup.
