On Tuesday night, the college basketball world will tune in to a matchup between No. 23 Texas and No. 14 Texas Tech. The game itself brings enough hype to get excited about, but what is happening off the court is why people will be watching.
Chris Beard, Texas’ head coach, is headed back to Lubbock for the first time since taking the Texas job on April Fool’s Day in 2021. His betrayal of the scarlet and black has caused quite the uproar in West Texas and he is going to hear about it during tonight’s game. Warning: there may be tortillas involved.
The Texas Longhorns arrived in Lubbock last night, about 24 hours prior to tip off, and they were met with, well, a less than warm welcome. Check it out for yourself.
I would expect nothing less from the nice people of Lubbock, Texas. I mean, Beard did leave Tech for one of their most bitter rivals. Texas and Texas Tech absolutely loathe one another, so he had to have known the outcome of his decision to leave for Austin.
Now, he has given Tech fans a reason to get up for his trip back into the panhandle of the Lone Star State. The atmosphere inside United Supermarkets Arena tonight might be the most electric of any game all season long, and I, for one, am here for it. Thank you, Mr. Beard, and good luck with that crowd tonight.
