Texas Tech Football: 2022 Recruiting Class Rundown

Maurion Horn leads the way as a four-star recruit signed by the Texas Tech Red Raiders during the opening day of the early signing period for the 2022 football recruiting class.
Horn, rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports.com, is part of the first recruiting class put together by new head coach Joey McGuire. However, Horn committed to former Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells in July.
Horn had 14 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Baylor also offered Horn, and McGuire was previously on the Bears’ staff and had a heavy hand in recruiting.
The rest of the class is made up mostly of three-star players, including a pair of Cedar Hill, Texas, players who committed to Tech shortly after McGuire was hired. McGuire used to coach at Cedar Hill High School.
Tech was busy in the transfer portal as well, bringing in eight players via the portal, highlighted by former four-star and Texas safety Tyler Owens.
The Red Raiders finished the 2021 season with a 7-6 record after dismantling Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl, 34-7. The Red Raiders will have a new head coach next season in McGuire, who was hired during the season to replace Wells.
