Both the Iowa State men’s and women’s basketball teams will spend the Thanksgiving Holiday at the 2022 Phil Knight Invitational next November.
The Cyclones sent out a press release, with the dates set for Nov. 24-25, and Nov. 27. The games will be held in Portland, Oregon, at the Moda Center, Veterans Memorial Coliseum and the Chiles Center.
The men’s bracket will feature Alabama, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland, UConn and Villanova, making it one of the most challenging men’s tournament of the holiday season.
The women’s bracket features Iowa State, along with Michigan State, North Carolina and Oregon.
Brackets and complete schedules will be released later this year.
The Cyclone men (16-9, 3-9 in Big 12) are considered a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament, per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. This week the Cyclones are playing TCU on Tuesday and Oklahoma on Saturday. Both the Horned Frogs and Sooners are fighting to get into the tournament, too.
The Iowa State women (21-3, 10-2) are leading the Big 12 standings and face a critical week, starting with a road game on Wednesday against Texas, one in which senior guard/forward Ashley Joens needs just 12 points to become ISU’s all-time leading scorer. Then, the Cyclones return home to host Oklahoma on Saturday. The Sooners are a game behind the Cyclones in the Big 12 standings, as are the Baylor Bears.
