West Virginia Men To Play in 2022 Phil Knight Legacy Event
The West Virginia men’s basketball team will spend the Thanksgiving Holiday at the 2022 Phil Knight Legacy Event in Portland, Oregon.
The Mountaineers announced their participation in the event, with the dates set for Nov. 24-25, and Nov. 27. The games will be held in Portland, Oregon. The tournament will be held concurrently with the Phil Knight Invitational, which was also announced on Tuesday.
The rest of the field for the Legacy Event includes Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Portland State, Purdue and Xavier. The eight teams in the Legacy field have combined for 199 NCAA Tournament appearances, 29 Final Fours and seven NCAA titles.
The Mountaineers (14-11, 3-9 in Big 12) are fighting to try and stay in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament and are coming off a 78-73 loss to Kansas State on Monday. The Mountaineers are back in action on Saturday when they host Kansas.
Both the Iowa State men and women will compete in the Phil Knight Invitational. The men’s event will feature Alabama, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland, UConn and Villanova. The women’s event will feature Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina and Oregon.
Iowa State’s men are fighting to get off the NCAA Tournament bubble while the women are atop the Big 12 standings.
