Keyonte George is Naismith High School Player of Year Finalist

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

Baylor signee Keyonte George is one of five finalists for the 2022 Naismith High School Boys Player of the Year, which was announced on Thursday.

The five players selected are among the highest-recruited players in the country. George is the only Big 12 signee on the list.

George, who plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, is the No. 4 overall recruit in the country, as rated by 247Sports.com. He signed in November. George will play in the McDonald’s All-American Game next month in Chicago.

George is part of a three-player signing class for Baylor. The other two signees are center Joshua Ojianwuna out of the NBA Global Academy and guard Dillon Hunter, who plays for Sunrise Christian in Wichita, Kansas. Both are considered Top 160 prospects in the 2022 Class by 247Sports.com.

The Bears are coming off an 83-73 loss to Texas Tech on Wednesday, and are working to adjust without forward Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, who had season-ending surgery on his leg earlier this week.

The other four players on the list include three Duke signees — Kyle Filipowski of Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts; Dereck Lively II of Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania; and Dariq Whitehead of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. The fifth finalist is Nick Smith Jr. of North Little Rock High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He signed with Arkansas in November.
