Kansas Leads Three Top 10 Big 12 Teams in AP Men’s Top 25

NCAA Basketball: Baylor at Kansas

Three Big 12 teams, led by Kansas were included among the Top 10 teams in the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25, released on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns were the only other Big 12 team in the Top 25, and no other Big 12 teams even received a vote.

The AP Top 25 included the following Big 12 teams:

No. 5 Kansas (The Jayhawks were No. 6 last week).

No. 9 Texas Tech (The Red Raiders were No. 11 last week).

No. 10 Baylor (the Bears were No. 7 last week).

No. 20 Texas (The Longhorns were No. 20 last week).

Kansas (22-3, 11-2 in Big 12) remains in the lead in the Big 12 after winning two games last week — 76-62 against Oklahoma State and 71-58 over West Virginia. The Jayhawks will host Kansas State on Tuesday in the Sunflower State Showdown game, and then travel to Baylor on Saturday.

Texas Tech (21-6, 10-4) moved back into the Top 10 after beating two ranked teams last week. The Red Raiders beat Baylor, 83-73, and then beat Texas on the road, 61-55. If the season ended today, the Red Raiders would be the No. 2 seed at the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. The Red Raiders host Oklahoma on Tuesday and travel to TCU on Saturday.

Baylor (22-5, 10-4) is in a tie for second place in the Big 12, but because of Texas Tech’s sweep of the Bears, they would be the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 Tournament. The Bears lost that road trip to Texas Tech, 83-73, and followed that with a 72-62 win over TCU. The Bears travel to Oklahoma State on Monday, followed by that home game with Kansas on Saturday.

Texas (19-8, 8-6) is in fourth place by itself in the Big 12 with four games remaining. The Longhorns beat Oklahoma in overtime, 80-78, and then lost to Texas Tech, 61-55, to end the week. The Longhorns host TCU on Wednesday and then travel to West Virginia on Saturday.

The entire poll featured No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 2. Arizona, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Purdue, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Kentucky, No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Villanova, No. 9 Texas Tech, No. 10 Baylor, No. 11 Providence, No. 12 UCLA, No. 13 Wisconsin, No. 14 Houston, No. 15 Illinois, No. 16 USC, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 19 Murray State, No. 20 Texas, No. 21 UConn, No. 22 Ohio State, No. 23 Saint Mary’s, No. 24 Alabama and No. 25 Iowa.
