Three Big 12 Teams in Top 10 of Women’s AP Top 25 Poll

Baylor, Texas and Iowa State led the Big 12 in the Top 10 of the newest AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25 released on Monday.

Baylor, Iowa State and Texas are the top three seeds in the Big 12 Tournament, which starts on Thursday in Kansas City.

The ranked Big 12 teams include:

 

Baylor at No. 4 (the Bears were No. 5 last week).

Texas at No. 7 (the Longhorns were No. 9 last week).

Iowa State at No. 10 (the Cyclones were No. 8 last week).

Oklahoma at No. 21 (the Sooners were No. 19 last week).

Kansas received three votes.

Baylor (25-5, 15-3) defeated Iowa State, 87-62, and Texas Tech, 82-57, to win its 12th straight Big 12 regular-season title. The Bears enter the Big 12 Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Baylor is also on a 10-game winning streak. The Bears are led by Heartland College Sports Player of the Year NaLyssa Smith and Coach of the Year Nicki Collen.

Texas (23-6, 13-5) is on an eight-game winning streak after beating Kansas, 70-60, and Oklahoma State, 65-50. The Longhorns will be the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.

Iowa State (25-5, 14-4) fell to Baylor, 87-62, in an attempt to clinch the Big 12 regular-season title for the first time in two decades. But the Cyclones ended the regular season with a 73-57 win over West Virginia and will be the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.  The Cyclones are led by Ashley Joens, who was on the Heartland College Sports All-Big 12 First Team.

Oklahoma (23-7, 12-6) split its two games last week. The Sooners defeated Oklahoma State, 79-76, and then lost to Kansas, 73-67. The Sooners will be the No. 4 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.  

The entire poll featured No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 NC State, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Louisville, No. 6 UConn, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Iowa, No. 9 LSU, No. 10 Iowa State, No. 11 Indiana, No. 12 Michigan, No. 13 Maryland, No. 14 Ohio State, No. 15 BYU, No. 16 Kentucky, No 17 Virginia Tech, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 19 Tennessee, No. 20 Arizona, No. 21 Oklahoma, No. 22 Notre Dame, No. 23 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 24 Princeton and No. 25 UCF.
