Chris Beard Rips Team’s Mindset After TCU Loss

The Texas Longhorns went into halftime with an 18-point lead over the Horned Frogs of TCU and appeared to be well on their way to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.

However, Jamie Dixon’s squad had other things in mind and outscored the Longhorns 45-20 in the second half to win 65-60. The 20 points in the second half for Texas were its lowest total in a half all season.

Chris Beard was, for good reason, beyond upset after the final buzzer. His team was absolutely manhandled in the second half and looked lifeless in rebound opportunities and shot just 22.6% after the break. Now, the Longhorns are a one-and-done team in the Big 12 tournament and will have to see where they are placed in the NCAA tournament next week.

Beard is not happy with his team’s mindset right now, which is a major concern with the NCAA Tournament looming. Check out this clip of Beard in the postgame press conference.

As blunt as he may be, it’s hard to argue with Beard on this one. There is no reason for Texas coming out as flat as they did in the second half when they entered the locker room up 40-22. The mentality they showed in the second half will get them beat in the tournament too, so let’s hope for Texas’ sake, that this was a learning moment for the Longhorns.
