Oklahoma Guard Elijah Harkless Enters Transfer Portal

Porter Moser and the Oklahoma Sooners took a huge hit on Monday morning when three-year starter Elijah Harkless entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Harkless, who joined the Sooners’ squad in 2020 after two seasons with Cal State Northridge, averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in 29 minutes per game this season.

Harkless’ year was cut short when he suffered an undisclosed injury in February that required him to miss the remainder of the season.

Just two weeks ago, it was announced that Harkless intended to return in 2022-23 for the Sooners, but something between then and now must have Harkless second-guessing his decision.

Harkless has been a weapon for the Sooners, shooting a career mark of 43.4% and 33% from three-point range. He will leave a large void for Porter Moster to fill, a void that already included replacing Jordan Goldwire, Marvin Johnson, Ethan Chargois, Alston Mason, and Akol Maiwen.

Moser will have to be terrific in the portal once again this offseason to field a competitive team in the uber-talented Big 12. Only time will tell how he is able to replace Harkless and the other pieces from 2021-22, but recent history suggests that Moser will find a way.
