Oklahoma Sweeps Big 12 Softball Weekly Honors For Third Time in 2022
For the third time this season, Oklahoma has swept the weekly honors given out to the conference’s top player and pitcher for each weekend of action.
This week, Oklahoma senior shortstop Grace Lyons was awarded Big 12 Player of the Week and sophomore Nicole May was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.
Lyons used her prowess at the plate to earn her accolades, batting .600 (6-for-10) with four home runs, five RBIs with nine runs scored along with a pair of walks and zero strikeouts. She hit a home run in each of Oklahoma’s three games against Texas Tech, including two of them in Game 1. Lyons was also impressive in the field, helping the Sooners turn two double-plays over the weekend.
Nicole May dominated in the circle in two appearances and one start, pitching an individual shutout and a combined no-hitter. May Struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits and three walks in 7.1 IP. On the weekend opponents batted just .130 against her, mustering just two extra-base hits over 278 batters faced.
With Lyons’ and May’s help, the Sooners are now 36-0 and off to the best start in NCAA softball history.
Previous to Lyons and May sweeping for the Sooners, Tiare Jennings and Jordy Bahl swept in Week 1, and then Jana Johns and Bahl again in Week 3.
