Oklahoma Guard Elijah Harkless Transfers to UNLV

One of Oklahoma’s top players from 2021-22, senior guard Elijah Harkless, entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal seven days ago.

Now, one week later, the three-year starter for the Sooners is headed to Sin City to play for the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, according to Harkless’ Twitter page.

The Rebels went 18-14 and finished fifth in a Mountain West that was surprisingly tough with the four teams ahead of them making the NCAA tournament field of 68.

Harkless’s 2021-22 season was cut short after he suffered an undisclosed injury in February that required him to miss the remainder of the season.

Just three weeks ago, it was announced that Harkless was set to return for the Sooners in 2022-23, but he obviously changed his mind quickly since that point in time.

Harkless, who joined the Sooners’ squad in 2020 after two seasons with Cal State Northridge, averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in 29 minutes per game this season. He was a weapon for the Sooners, shooting a career mark of 43.4% and 33% from three-point range.

He will leave a large void for Porter Moster to fill, a void that already included replacing Jordan Goldwire, Marvin Johnson, Ethan Chargois, Alston Mason, and Akol Maiwen.
