Oklahoma State added to its quarterback room on Easter Sunday as 2023 three-star quarterback Zane Flores announced his commitment to the Pokes via Twitter.
Flores, a native of Gretna, Nebraska, picked the Cowboys over Kansas State, Kansas, Indiana, and Washington among others.
In 2021, Flores threw for 2,885 yards and 26 touchdowns leading Gretna to a Class A State Championship. Unfortunately, their championship was stripped away for using an ineligible player during their title run.
Nonetheless, Flores’ performance on the field caught the eye of several programs, but the Cowboys have secured the talented gunslinger who recorded 75 total touchdowns on 6,175 total yards and completed 67.3% in three seasons.
Listed at 6-2, 190 pounds, Flores is ranked as the No. 29 quarterback in the class of 2023 and looks like someone who will be in the heat of the battle to replace Spencer Sanders.
Sanders has one season left in Stillwater unless he decides to come back for his extra year, meaning that Mike Gundy will need to replace him in 2023 or 2024 at the latest. If Sanders opts to leave, it will likely be one of two quarterbacks already on the roster: Garret Rangel, a former four-star recruit, and Mike Gundy’s son Gunnar Gundy. However, if Sanders sticks around, it could give Flores the time he needs to establish himself in Casey Dunn’s system and gain some valuable experience.
It’s also not out of the question for Oklahoma State to pick up another quarterback in this class, as they have existing offers extended to two players who have yet to commit anywhere: Eli Holstein and Brock Glenn.
