Chris Beard and Longhorn Nation rejoice as Texas senior point guard Marcus Carr will return to Austin in 2022-23.
Carr, who transferred from Minnesota after the 2020-2021 season, served as the primary point guard last season and will be a huge contributor for Beard’s squad next season.
Although he split times with Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey, Carr managed to be Texas’ second-leading scorer with 11.4 points per game and led the team with assists with 3.4 per game. It is also worth noting that he played a team-high 30.9 minutes per contest.
Carr showed his value in his first-ever NCAA tournament appearance, recording 15 points and nine assists against Virginia Tech, and then had 23 points and seven assists against Purdue in a round of 32 loss.
Carr’s return was announced about 48 hours after Timmy Allen announced he was coming back next season as well, giving the Longhorns a strong nucleus to build around.
With Courtney Ramey and Devin Askew hitting the transfer portal this week, Carr will be set for an even larger role for UT next season, which is good news for a player that averages almost 14 points and 5 assists per game in his career.
