D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings: Oklahoma State Moves Into Top 5

NCAA Baseball: Big 12 Conference Baseball Championship

After another exciting weekend of baseball, the Big 12 has one of the biggest risers, and fallers, in this week’s D1Baseball Top 25 Poll.

Oklahoma State, fresh off of a 4-0 week including a series sweep over Texas in Austin, rose from eighth all the way to No. 3 in this week’s poll. The revolving door that is the top of the Big 12 standings continues to go round and round, but this Cowboys team looked like one of the best teams in baseball over the weekend with three wins over then-10th ranked Texas: 8-6, 14-3, 10-8. With just one conference series loss this season (last week against TCU), the Cowboys have grabbed the top spot in the Big 12 standings with a 31-13 (13-5) record.

The Texas Longhorns, who were on the losing end of the series with Oklahoma State, fell from 10th, all the way out of the poll after being swept by the Cowboys. It has been quite the disappointing season for the Longhorns, who started out the year ranked No. 1, and now barely resemble the team that everyone thought they would be in 2022. Sure, losing RHP Tanner Witt for the seasons certainly doesn’t help, but this Texas roster is full of talent, leaving UT fans wondering what is going on.

Texas Tech stayed put at No. 9 after winning their weekend series against Baylor two games to one, but their loss to the Bears on Sunday coupled with a loss to Abilene Christian on Tuesday kept the Red Raiders from ascending any further in this week’s rankings.

TCU, who was fresh off a series win over Oklahoma State, crashed back down to earth last week after going 0-3. A 5-6 loss to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday kicked off the week on the wrong foot for the Horned Frogs, who then ran into surging Florida State team. Two games later, TCU had been outscored 17-3 and the Frogs fell from No. 20 to 24th in the poll.
