Baylor Bears

Oklahoma, Texas Lead Big 12 Odds for 2022 Football Season

There are 110 days left until college football returns for the 2022 season and Vegas is already starting to release odds for each conference champion.

The Big 12 odds were released today by BetOnline.ag and a familiar team sits atop the odds list, with Oklahoma being the favorite at 7/4. However, just behind the Sooners is where things start to get interesting as the Texas Longhorns, who finished 5-7 in 2021, have the second-best odds at 2/1.

Oklahoma State comes in at 5/1 odds, the third-best in the conference after a 12-2 campaign in 2021 that included a Fiesta Bowl win over Notre Dame. Head coach Mike Gundy has quite a few holes to fill on the roster, but clearly not enough of them to swat oddsmakers away from the Pokes in 2022.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all is that Baylor is all the way down at fourth, with 15/2 odds, despite returning key pieces on both the offensive and defensive lines after running their way to a Big 12 title in 2021. Gerry Bohanon is gone after head coach Dave Aranda named Blake Shapen the starter going forward, but the Bears should be dangerous in 2022 and would be much higher on my list.

After Baylor, Iowa State comes in at 12/1 odds, with TCU not far behind them at 14/1. After the Cyclones and Horned Frogs is a steep dropoff in oddsmakers’ eyes, as Texas Tech (40/1), West Virginia (40/1), Kansas State (50/1), and Kansas (300/1) are viewed as longshots.

In my opinion, Kansas State at 50/1 just feels like an extremely good value as the Wildcats return several key starters on both sides, including All-Americans Deuce Vaughn and Felix Aniduke-Uzomah. Plus, adding Adrian Martinez at quarterback gives the Wildcats a true dual-threat going into 2022. K-State is a dark horse contender in 2022 and is where my value money would go in these odds.
