Big 12 Baseball: Texas Tech and TCU Complete Sweeps While Oklahoma Wins Fourth Straight Series

We are in the eighth full weekend of conference play as eight Big 12 teams are back in action on the diamond this weekend. There are several big-time matchups around the conference and here is what happened in the Big 12 on Sunday.
#9 Texas Tech: 6
#3 Oklahoma State: 4
How about these Texas Tech Red Raiders? A few weeks ago, they got swept against TCU and at the time, I wasnβt sure if they could make a conference title push. Here we are a few weeks later and they just swept a top five team in the country on the road. Jace Jung got the game started with a solo blast and Hudson White added another run to make it a 2-0 game early on. Jake Thompson would help Oklahoma State get on the board in the third inning, but Texas Tech would extend their lead even more in the fifth inning. There Owen Washburn drove in a pair of runs and Hudson White came up with another key hit. Jace Jung would also add another run just an inning later to give Tech a 6-1 lead. Oklahoma State would go on to score three more runs in the game, but it wasnβt enough to win.
It was a disappointing weekend for Oklahoma State because before this series they were in the driverβs seat for a Big 12 title and now they are sitting in third place. As for Texas Tech, this was huge as they have one final series left to try and win a conference crown.
Oklahoma: 17
West Virginia: 7
There have been a ton of runs scored in this series and once again it was the Oklahoma Sooners who came out on top. Down 1-0 early on, Oklahomaβs Tanner Tredaway and Brett Squires went deep in the second inning. West Virginia would end up having a big fourth inning and even had a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of that inning. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, that lead didnβt last long because it was all Oklahoma from there. The Sooners went on to score four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth. By the time the seventh inning rolled around, Oklahoma had a ten-run lead which led to a run rule. It was one heck of a weekend for the Sooners offense as they scored a total of 40 runs against West Virginia in their three-game series. The rest of the conference better watch out because this Oklahoma team has now won four straight series.
Kansas State: 7
Baylor: 5
Just like on Saturday, Kansas State won the game scoring seven runs. Baylor got on the board first thanks to a home run by Jared McKenzie and would go on to score four more runs in the next few innings to get out to a 5-1 lead. But then Kansas State woke up and made a great comeback. Dylan Phillips got the rally started in the eighth inning with an RBI single before Nick Goodwin hit a grand slam to give Kansas State the lead and eventually the victory. With the win, Kansas State takes the series as they move to 8-13 in Big 12 play.
TCU: 8
Kansas: 2
Maui Ahuna got the game going with a home run to give Kansas an early lead, but TCU would eventually take over. Down 2-1 in the fourth inning, TCUβs Tommy Sacco knocked in a pair of runs to give his team the lead. From there the Frogs kept the bats hot as Kurtis Byrne and Brayden Taylor went yard to give their team an easy 8-2 win. With the win on Sunday, TCU completes the three-game sweep over Kansas as they now are on top of the Big 12 standings.
