Jaylon Shelton, a JUCO defensive back in the 2022 class, announced his commitment to West Virginia on Tuesday afternoon via Twitter.
The 6-3, 188-pound DB out of New London, Texas, chose the Mountaineers over TCU, but also held offers from Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Indiana, Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay, Stephen F. Austin, Prairie View A&M, and Northern Alabama.
Shelton spent each of the last two seasons at Tyler Junior College and was redshirted during the 2020 season there and will have three years of eligibility remaining when he gets to Morgantown.
During his time with Tyler Junior College, Shelton played nine games, recording 33 tackles and two interceptions.
In an interview with Mountaineers Now, Shelton expressed his excitement to play in the Big 12.
“I was extremely excited when I found out I received a full ride to West Virginia University because that was my first Big 12 offer and I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Big 12,” Shelton said. “I think there’s a lot of positivity surrounding the program, especially with the amazing facilities and coaching staff.”
Shelton is the second defensive back that the Mountaineers have added in the last few days, as they also received a commitment from Colorado State cornerback Rashad Ajayi on Saturday.
