West Virginia got a major boost on the recruiting trail on Wednesday afternoon, as four-star athlete Rodney Gallagher committed to the Mountaineers live on CBS Sports HQ.
A junior at Laurel Highlands in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and a member of the 2023 class, is a widely sought-after recruit that held offers from other notable programs, including Notre Dame, Penn State, and Texas among many others.
Gallagher is listed as the No. 2 player in the state of Pennsylvania, and the No. 13 overall wide receiver in the 2023 class. Right now, Gallagher plays quarterback, cornerback, kick returner at Laurel Highlands, but will almost certainly play WR at the next level.
“[Gallagher has] level stop-start ability with excellent body control and acceleration translates well to yards after catch,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn wrote. “Creative runner in the open field with vision. Has the mindset of can score from anywhere on the field…could be an impact receiver for a top 10 program.”
After Gallagher’s commitment, WVU boasts a top-15 class in 2023, and gives the Mountaineers their highest rated recruit since 2010.
For now, it seems the days of Neal Brown’s struggles on the recruiting trail have subsided, but will it be enough to keep him around for another year. I guess we will see, when the 2022 season gets underway.
