Tyrese Hunter Transfers to Texas Over Tennessee

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament First Round Milwaukee - Iowa St. vs LSU

Tyrese Hunter is moving on from Iowa State, but he’s staying in the Big 12, after announcing on his Twitter page he is transferring to the Texas Longhorns. Hunter was reportedly down to Texas and Tennessee.

Here’s a look at his announcement.

Tyrese Hunter entered the transfer portal last month in an announcement that came as a shock and disappointment to Iowa State fans.

Averaging 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, and nearly five assists per game in his freshman year in Ames, Hunter was a major part of the Cyclones’ NCAA Tournament run. Against LSU, Hunter shot 63.6% from three and buried 7-11 from deep for 23 points. He also added five steals, three rebounds, and three assists in the 59-54 victory over the Bayou Bengals.

Hunter also broke Iowa State’s freshman record for assists (172) and steals (71), while also rankings fifth in steals and sixth in assists all-time among Big 12 freshmen. His efforts earned him the title of 2021-22 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
