Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Lead Odds to Win 2022 Women’s College World Series

The 2022 Women’s College World Series is set to begin in Oklahoma City on Thursday, and oddsmakers like the hometown teams to take home the hardware.

The Oklahoma Sooners are overwhelming favorites to win it all, with 4/7 odds, and for good reason. At 54-2, Oklahoma has been the No. 1 team in the country since the preseason polls back in February and have looked the part for the entirety of the season.

Since the beginning of the postseason tournament, OU has went 5-0 and outscored its opponents 52-3 in that time. They have done all of that without their best pitcher in Jordy Bahl, who is set to return this week.

At 3/1, the second best odds entering the tournament, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls are also looking quite dominant to this stage in the tournament. As the only other team to go a perfect 5-0 in Regional and Super Regional play, OSU has looked brilliant since the end of the regular season.

Kelly Maxwell has been incredibly effective in her four tournament appearances, allowing six hits, zero runs, and has walked just two batters compared to 41 strikeouts. Her performance alone might push the Cowgirls into a spot in the Finals next week.

Another Big 12 team is still fighting for the softball crown, contrary to what the NCAA thinks, as the Texas Longhorns battled their way into the WCWS field and hold 12/1 odds to win it all.

Perhaps the one player that has been more important to their team than Kelly Maxwell has been Texas pitcher Hailey Dolcini, who threw an unbelievable 525 pitches in the Longhorns’ first five tournament games. Janae Jefferson’s bat has been on fire as well, bringing them through Seattle and Fayetteville to Oklahoma City for the first time since 2013.
