West Virginia added some help on the defensive side of the ball on Wednesday and head coach Neal Brown announced that the Mountaineers have added JMU defensive back Wesley McCormick to its 2022 roster.
Listed at 6-0, 199-pounds, McCormick will have just one year of eligibility remaining and will use it with WVU this season.
The fifth-year senior played in just one game last season, sitting out the rest of the year to retain his eligibility.
Prior to that, in his senior year, McCormick started seven games at cornerback where he recorded 20 tackles (16 solo), one tackle for loss, three interceptions and two pass breakups. His three interceptions tied him for the CAA lead and was second in the conference in total passes defended.
McCormick will join 2022 JUCO DB Jaylon Shelton as newcomers in the West Virginia defensive backfield. Shelton spent each of the last two seasons at Tyler Junior College and was redshirted during the 2020 season there and will have three years of eligibility remaining when he gets to Morgantown.
During his time with Tyler Junior College, Shelton played nine games, recording 33 tackles and two interceptions.
