Jocelyn Alo: ‘No One Shuts Out the Sooners Twice’

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns met for the fourth time in 2022 on Saturday, with the contest going to those north of the Red River for the third time this season.

Oklahoma seemed to have the edge from the very beginning, as Jayda Coleman hit a leadoff double and “Home Run Queen” Jocelyn Alo brought her home with a two-run shot on the very next at-bat. From there the Sooners went on to win 7-2, solidifying themselves as the hottest team in softball right now.

After all, Oklahoma has now outscored its NCAA Tournament opponents by a combined score of 72-7. Texas was the latest obstacle for the Sooner Softball Machine, and they ran through the Longhorns as they have everyone else that has gotten in their way.

After the game, Coleman and Alo spoke about giving their team the immediate edge at the beginning of this pivotal contest.

“That was fun, being able to lead it off,” Coleman said. “I knew if I just get on base, I could trust Jocey to get me in. She hit a bomb, it was great.”

“It was funny we talked about it last night,” Alo continued. “I was like, you’re going to get on and I’m going to hit you in.

“But I think we had the edge this time, a little bit of a chip on our shoulder. Last time we faced Dolcini, she shut us out. No one shuts out the Sooners twice, let alone three times. Yeah, we had something to prove for sure.”

The Sooners certainly proved their point, and put themselves in a great spot to be in the Championship series next week, as they need just one more win to get there.
