Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones got some good news from the recruiting trail on Monday as they landed a commitment from three-star athlete Jamison Patton.
Patton, a senior at Ankeny High School in Des Moines (IA), is ranked as the fourth-best player in the state of Iowa for 2023, making him a big get for Campbell and company.
Listed at 6-2, 190-pounds, Patton is a highly-coveted athlete in the region and chose Iowa State over Iowa, UCLA, Kansas State, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Washington among others.
Patton made his decision public on Twitter Monday afternoon, giving Cyclone Nation something to be excited about with a few months still to go before football season comes back around.
Patton will likely be featured in the secondary in Ames, although in his high school career he has proven to be a versatile athlete playing quarterback as well. Getting the local star to stay home is big for the Cyclones and will certainly pay dividends down the road.
With the addition of Patton, the Cyclones 2023 class has grown to nine members, giving them the 22nd-ranked class in the country.
This also places them sixth in the Big 12 recruiting rankings for now, behind Texas Tech (2), Baylor (12), TCU (16), Oklahoma State (20), and West Virginia (21) and ahead of Texas (33), Oklahoma (40), Kansas State (67), and Kansas (89).
