Three-Star Tight End Spencer Shannon Commits to Texas Longhorns

NCAA Football: Texas at West Virginia

The Texas Longhorns continued their hot streak for recruiting top talent to Austin on Monday as they secured a commitment from three-star tight end Spencer Shannon.

Shannon is a product of Mater Dei High School (Santa Ana, CA), one of the top prep schools in America and has drawn offers from several Division I programs in his time there. The Monarchs were MaxPreps’ 2021 national champions after going 12-0 and winning the CIF State Championship last season.

The 2023 prospect is listed as the No. 23 tight end in his class, and has elite size at 6-7, 240-pounds coming out of high school.

Shannon announced his decision via Twitter on Monday, choosing Texas over UCLA, Cal, Washington, Tennessee, Louisville, and Washington State among many others.

The Longhorns now have six commitments in their 2023 class, which ranks 27th nationally at this point in time. Shannon is the first member of the class not classified as a four-star, although it would not be surprising to see him earn that fourth star sometime before he signs his letter of intent.

Texas, along with the rest of the Big 12 has been hot this week on the recruiting trail, so stay tuned for more commitments as they are sure to keep rolling in as summer comes into full swing.
