Iowa State’s Ashley Joens is playing a starring role with Team USA during the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Antwerp, Belgium.

Jones, along with Cierra Burdick, Lauren Cox and Hailey van Lith, are part of the team that won its first two games on Wednesday.

Cox played her college basketball at Baylor.

Team USA won the first game in pool play against New Zealand, 19-14, and then followed that up three hours later with an 18-16 win over Austria. Jones scored one point in the game against New Zealand but shared the team high of six points in the win over Austria.

Team USA has an off-day on Thursday before facing Brazil and France on Friday to wrap up pool play.

Right now, Team USA is in second place in Pool B. France and Team USA are the only undefeated teams in the pool, but France is slightly ahead of the U.S. due to total points scored (38 to 37).

The winner of the pool advances to the quarterfinals of the knockout stage. The second- and third-place teams advance to the round of 16. The knockout stage begins on June 25.

Joens is returning for her fifth season with the Cyclones, coming off her second straight Cheryl Miller Award as the nation’s best small forward, Second-Team AP All-American honors, All-Big 12 First Team honors and leading the Cyclones to a trip to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.

Joens averaged 20.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists per game and is now the program’s all-time leading scorer.
