Iowa State remained hot on the recruiting trail on Friday as the secured a commitment from 2023 three-star safety Tashawn James.
A native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, James is listed at 6-0, 180 pounds and is set to play his senior year at Carl Albert High School. As the No. 14 player in the state, and the No. 101 safety in the country, but does not have a composite rating from 247Sports.
James chose the Cyclones over offers from Tulsa and Northern Iowa and announced his decision on Twitter on Friday afternoon.
After taking an official visit to Ames, James told 247Sports, ““I loved being around the coaching staff. They were all very welcoming and great guys. The players, they really took us in and we got to be around them a couple nights. They took us in, and everything was really close up there.”
James’ commitment gives Iowa State 13 pledges for the 2023 class, which now ranks as the No. 22 class in the nation and the sixth-best class in the Big 12 behind Texas Tech (6), Baylor (12), West Virginia (16), TCU (18), and Texas (20).
