Baylor Sits Atop 2022 Big 12 Football Preseason Poll

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Baylor

The Big 12 Conference released its 2022 Football Preseason Poll on Thursday and the Baylor Bears found themselves at the top of the poll with 17 first place votes.

The reigning Big 12 Champions have a wealth of experience returning in the trenches as well as one of the best up-and-coming head coaches in the country in Dave Aranda, likely leading to their placement in the poll.

Finding themselves in a peculiar spot at second is Oklahoma, who has been atop the preseason poll for the last seven years but finds themselves looking up at Baylor. The Sooners received 12 first place votes and will look to essentially start over their dynasty this year under new head coach Brent Venables.

Predicted at third is Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Last year’s runner up received nine first place votes, well above anyone outside of Baylor or Oklahoma.

After Oklahoma State only two other teams received first place votes, as Texas was picked fourth with two votes and Iowa State, who came in at six, received one vote. Kansas State was picked to finish fifth with n first place votes, while TCU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Kansas rounded out the preseason conference standings from 7-10.

The poll, along with All-Big 12 team selections, were released just ahead of Big 12 Media Days in Arlington on July 13-14.
