Iowa State Releases Men’s Non-Conference Basketball Schedule

The Iowa State men’s basketball team will play in the Phil Knight Invitational in its biggest non-conference event of the 2022-23 schedule, which was released on Wednesday.
The Cyclones’ appearance in the Portland, Ore.-based invitational, had already been announced. The Cyclones will play three games in the event, set for Nov. 24-27. The field will include Alabama, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland, UConn and Villanova, and the bracket will be announced later this year.
That’s one of only two trips out of the state of Iowa for the Cyclones during non-conference action. The other is its Jan. 28 Big 12-SEC game with Missouri.
The Cyclones open the season with IUPUI at Hilton Coliseum on Nov. 7. After that the Cyclones have just two games before the trip to Oregon, with North Carolina A&T on Nov. 13 and Milwaukee on Nov. 20, with both games at Hilton.
After the trip to Oregon, the Cyclones host North Dakota on Nov. 30. St. John’s comes to Ames, Iowa, on Dec. 4, for the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle game. Then, the Cyclones take a trip to Iowa City to take on Iowa in the annual Cy-Hawk game on Dec. 8.
The Cyclones wrap up December with three home games – Dec. 11 against McNeese State, Dec. 18 against Western Michigan and Dec. 21 against Omaha.
The Big 12 schedule will be announced later this year.
Head coach T.J. Otzelberger led one of the most impressive turnarounds in college basketball last season, taking a two-win team from 2020-21 and winning 22 games. The Cyclones moved back into the AP Top 25 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
