Auburn Trying to Flip 2023 Iowa State QB Commit JJ Kohl

NCAA Football: Iowa State at West Virginia

Iowa State football is now in a place where they have SEC programs trying to flip their recruits.

According to Auburn Live, Auburn is trying to flip four-star Iowa State 2023 quarterback commit JJ Kohl.

The report says the Tigers’ staff has been talking with Kohl for weeks, who they have also offered a scholarship to as well. However Kohl’s father, who played football for Iowa State, said getting the quarterback to flip could end up being a challenge.

“JJ is committed to Iowa State and Matt Campbell’s staff,” Jamie Kohl said. “I don’t see that changing. With that being said, Auburn has always been a special place to us. JJ has been to the Iron Bowl when he was younger and I have been to Auburn 15-20 times. It’s a special place!”

The 6-6, 227-pound signal-caller is ranked as the No. 3 player in the state of Iowa and the No. 15 quarterback in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.

Kohl picked the Cyclones over a host of other schools, including Boston College, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Wisconsin among others.

In his junior season in 2021, Kohl threw for 2,185 yards, 25 touchdowns to just four interceptions, completing 60.3% of his passes. His efforts helped lead Ankeny to the 5A state title game, where they were defeated by Southeast Polk.
