Matt Campbell Given Best Odds to be Next Nebraska Football Coach

Iowa State fans, you might want to keep track of the Nebraska coaching search as your head coach, Matt Campbell, is currently the betting favorite to land the job, per BetOnline. Campbell is listed at 4/1 odds to be the next head coach at Nebraska among a list of candidates released on Monday.
If you’ve been under a rock for the last few weeks, the Nebraska Cornhuskers entered the 2022 season with promise, but that has disappeared after a 1-2 start with bad losses coming at the hands of Northwestern in Week 1 and Georgia Southern in Week 3. Subsequently, the former Golden Boy of Nebraska football, Scott Frost, got the boot on Sunday, leaving one of the “blue-blood” programs of college football without a full-time head coach.
Interim head coach Mickey Joseph, the associate head coach and passing game coordinator coming into the year, is second on the list for odds to land the full-time job with 9/2 odds. Joseph will have the luxury of “earning” the job as an interim, but it would be hard to see the Huskers not trying their hand with someone who has prior experience first.
Matt Campbell is the perfect fit for a job like Nebraska, but does he want to leave a place that he is happy and appreciated to take on the challenge of bringing Nebraska back to prominence. Campbell inherited a bad program at Iowa State and turned it into a winner with his “five-star culture” approach. At a place like Nebraska, with a clear lack of recruiting hot beds around him geographically, Campbell could do more with less until he can build a team worthy of competing , as he has in Ames.
