Big 12 Football Week 5 Opening Lines

Las Vegas Sports Betting Board

While a few teams either played nonconference opponents or had a BYE last week, conference play started off in Week 4 and we had some surprising outcomes from a betting perspective.

Baylor won in Ames as a 2.5-point underdog, while K-State went to Norman and upset the sixth-ranked Sooners as a 13-point underdog. Now, with a full slate of Big 12 games ahead of us, there are more lines to look at and several directions to go this week. Every team in the conference is in action, so let’s take a look at the lines, courtesy of BetOnline.

The first game up is No. 18 Oklahoma vs. TCU in Fort Worth. The opening line for that game is much closer than many imagined, as the Sooners, who are coming off a disappointing performance, are just 4.5-point favorites over the Horned Frogs. I expect that line to move quickly this week so it likely won’t be there for long.

Next, we have No. 9 Oklahoma State at No. 16 Baylor and the home team is getting the points in this one at the moment. Dave Aranda’s Bears are currently favored by 2.5 points in a 2021 Big 12 title rematch with the Cowboys.

West Virginia will hit the road this week and head to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns. Both teams come into the contest with 2-2 (0-1 Big 12) records and need a win to get back on track. Vegas likes Texas, and by 10 points, this one.

After defeating the Longhorns in Week 4, Texas Tech will head north to Manhattan to take on No. 25 Kansas State. When the lines opened on this one, K-State was the favorite by seven points, but I expect that line will shrink a bit by Saturday.

Finally, the Iowa State Cyclones, coming off a big win over Baylor, will head to Lawrence, Kansas, where they will take on a 4-0 Jayhawks team in the Booth. Iowa State, the road team, is currently favored by 3.5 points in that one.

Here’s a quick look at the list of Big 12 lines this week.

  • No. 18 Oklahoma (-4.5) at TCU
  • No. 9 Oklahoma State at No. 16 Baylor (-2.5)
  • West Virginia at Texas (-10)
  • Texas Tech at No. 25 Kansas State (-7)
  • Iowa State (-3.5) at Kansas
