Big 12 Football Week 6 Opening Lines

Las Vegas Sports Betting Board

After a full weekend of Big 12 football, we got to see a bit of the conference hierarchy play itself out, but that didn’t make it any less surprising when you look atop the Big 12 standings and see the Kansas Jayhawks at the top.

The Kansas renaissance is accompanied by the sudden plummet of Oklahoma, who has lost to surging Kansas State and TCU teams in each of the last two weeks. As we head into Week 6, we are starting to see the Big 12 race take shape, and that means that Vegas is starting to get caught up on the happenings in the conference.

BetOnline released the opening lines for Week 6 on Sunday, and it certainly doesn’t look quite like you would have imagined at the beginning of the season. Texas and Oklahoma are set to play in the Red River Showdown on Saturday, and the Texas Longhorns opened up as five-point favorites, although that line has already swelled to 6.5 points by Monday morning. Both teams will come into this contest unranked, which hasn’t happened since 1998.

No. 17 TCU will hit the road after whooping Oklahoma in Fort Worth and their destination is Lawrence, Kansas, where they will face the undefeated and 19th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. For the first time ever, College Gameday is coming to Lawrence for a clash of ranked and undefeated foes, but it is currently the Horned Frogs who Vegas likes this one, opening as five-point favorites and the line swelling to six points at this time.

Texas Tech will try to dust itself off after a tough loss on the road to Kansas State but will have to do so against arguably the toughest opponent left on its schedule: No. 7 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys opened up as 10.5-point favorites at home, and that line is holding steady as the week begins.

Finally, No. 20 Kansas State and Iowa State are set to clash in “Farmageddon” in Ames this weekend, with the Kansas State Wildcats coming to town with a 4-1 (2-0 Big 12) record. The struggling Cyclones (3-2, 0-2 Big 12) are getting plenty of respect in this one however, as K-State opened as just a one-point favorite, and the line is only up to two this morning.
