College GameDay was in Lawrence for a football game for the first time ever on Saturday and the biggest reason why is second-year head coach Lance Leipold, who is leading the turnaround for the Jayhawks.
Leipold sat down with College GameDay for an interview on Saturday morning and began the conversation with praise for the KU fan base, saying, “We’ve had such a loyal fanbase that’s been waiting and dreaming for something. They’ve been patient and we’re glad we’re at this point right now.”
Leipold was then asked about the personality of his team, to which he responded, on the personality of its team. “Right now it’s one that’s really enjoying he process we’re going through and it’s got a little bit of a chip on its shoulder right now, they continue to get better and want to improve itself and prove itself to the country.”
Leipold was also asked about the life lessons he wants his guys to leave the program with, and the head coach said, “I think it goes back to the simplistic things. Punctuality. Work ethic. Doing your best each and every day to get a little bit better. And those things can translate to everything that you’re doing. Whether it be academically, as a husband, as a father… and I hope that’s what they’ll take with them when they leave here besides the great experience.”
