The Big has been known for excellent quarterback play over the years and in several years that has culminated in Heisman Trophy winners or finalists.
In 2022, that may yet be the case again as several quarterbacks in this league are among the nation’s best. While the Heisman Trophy is given to the nation’s best player, regardless of position, it has become a quarterback trophy of late, as 18 of the last 22 recipients have played quarterback.
Through six weeks of action, we have seen several Big 12 quarterbacks have impressive performances that have landed them on the board of Heisman odds according to BetOnline, and there is a new player on the board, just outside of the top 10: Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers who has 33/1 odds of winning the 2022 Heisman.
Ewers was surgical against Oklahoma last weekend in a 49-0 beatdown of the Sooners, completing 21 of 31 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns. His quarterback rating on the afternoon was 182.2 and with him on the field, Texas looked like one of the best teams in the nation.
Just behind Ewers at 40/1 odds is Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez, who continues to will Kansas State to victories. The Wildcats are now 3-0 in Big 12 play in large part because of Martinez, who has been responsible for 992 yards and 10 touchdowns in the last three games.
Oklahoma State quarterback is also listed at 40/1 odds to win the Heisman and is one of the top offensive players in the Big 12 with 18 total touchdowns through five games.
Max Duggan (50/1) and Bijan Robinson (100/1) are also on the board, while Deuce Vaughn and Jalon Daniels fell off the board this week.
