2023 OU Commit Derrick LeBlanc on Sooners’ Struggles: ‘We Just Got the Best Staff’

Oklahoma is in the midst of its toughest stretch of football in the last quarter-century as the Sooners have now lost three-straight games and are in serious jeopardy of missing out on a bowl game in Brent Venables’ first year if they don’t get things turned around.

There has been a stir amongst Sooner Nation that is not only worried about where Oklahoma is now but also what the future might look like if they continue to struggle. It is a valid concern, given the level of success that the program in Norman is familiar with, but it appears that things are looking just fine for Oklahoma in regard to their recruiting class in the immediate future.

Oklahoma DL Commit Derrick Leblanc was recently interviewed by SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion. In the interview, McCuistion asks Leblanc about where he stands with Oklahoma, despite the recent struggles.

“We good,” Leblanc replied. “We got [Brent] Venables, Coach [Todd] Bates, and Coach [Miguel] Chavis. We just got the best staff. Once we get our players, we straight.”

Here’s a look at the full interview in Leblanc following his high school game on Thursday night.

LeBlanc is one of the major pieces for Oklahoma in a 2023 class that has risen to No. 3 overall in the country. Other pieces like five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold and five-star EDGE PJ Adeboware seem locked in as well and could be guys that push for immediate playing time come 2023.

If the Sooners can indeed hold on to what they’ve got coming in with the next cycle, it could go a long way in Brent Venables and his staff seeing a huge boost in 2023 and beyond.
