Week eight of the college football season is upon us, and with that, comes another update to the 2022 Heisman trophy watchlist.
Three Big 12 quarterbacks received odds to win the trophy ahead of their week eight matchups and find themselves amongst the nation’s best. Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders leads the Big 12 with the highest odds to win the trophy courtesy of BetOnline with 33/1 odds. Joining Sanders on the list are Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez (40/1), and TCU quarterback Max Duggan (50/1).
Spencer Sanders is coming off a decent performance against TCU in which he went 16/36 for 245/1/1 however, the Cowboys did end up losing 43-40 against TCU and their Heisman watchlist quarterback Max Duggan.
Duggan lead the Horned Frogs to a major Big 12 win with a stat line of 23/40 for 286 yards passing, and two scores. He also added 11 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown to secure himself a spot on the list of potential Heisman finalists.
The Kansas State Wildcats were on a bye this week so we did not get to see Adrian Martinez take the field. Martinez to this point in the season has thrown for 900 yards and four touchdowns but his major leg up on the competition has been his rushing ability.
Martinez currently sits in fifth among all Big 12 players with 91 carries for 546 yards and nine scores, one rushing touchdown behind Texas runningback Bijan Robinson.
