Big 12 Bets: An Underdog, Lock, and Bad Bet for Week 8

Las Vegas Sports Betting Board

One of the beautiful things about college football is the parity and chaos that we see each and every week. There are, after all, 22 moving parts on the field every time that the ball is snapped, and just one player out of place can change the course of a game, hell even a season, in just one play.

While watching football and understanding the nuances of what is going on takes a bit of experience, the real talent is in being able to put your money where your mouth is when it comes to betting on the world’s greatest sport.

Here are some betting trends you should pay attention to in Week 8 of Big 12 action, with an upset, a lock, and a bad bet to avoid on Saturday.

UNDERDOG TO WATCH: No. 11 Oklahoma State (+6.5) vs. No. 20 Texas

Either Vegas knows something that I don’t about the health of Spencer Sanders or I am just totally wrong about this Oklahoma State team. It just feels odd to me that the Cowboys are nearly a touchdown dog to Texas, regardless of how good the Longhorns look offensively at times. I picked the Longhorns to win this game in my preview, but just looking at the line makes me second-guess myself. I could very easily see Oklahoma State winning this game outright, so I am going with them as my underdog to watch in Week 8.

Underdogs for 2022: 2-4 SU; 4-2 ATS

LOCK OF THE WEEK: Kansas (+9.5) vs. Baylor

The Kansas Jayhawks are the lone team in the country that remains undefeated against the spread in 2022 with a 6-0-1 record after closing as a 10-point underdog at Oklahoma last week. Now, Kansas is floating around that same number against Baylor on the road. I think Kansas has the pieces to win this game outright, but I’m going to take Baylor to win the game. However, it isn’t going to be by double digits; I’m thinking its going to come down to a field goal in the end. Give me Kansas and the points for my Lock of the Week.

Locks for 2022: 3-3

BAD BET OF THE WEEK: No. 17 Kansas State at No. 8 TCU UNDER (55)

Unfortunately, I have been better at telling you what not to bet this season rather than what to feel confident in putting your money on, but, at least I’m right about something. For this week’s bad bet, look no further than the Kansas State-TCU game. The O/U in Fort Worth this weekend is sitting at 55, and I just have a hard time seeing this being a 27-24 type game. Don’t overthink this one, it seems extremely likely that this game hits the over, and it could do so going away. Stay away from the under here, as tempting as it might be with Kansas State involved.

Bad Bets for 2022: 5-1
