Adrian Martinez on His Time at Nebraska: ‘I Didn’t Want to go Out in Public’

NCAA Football: Nebraska at Wisconsin

ESPN’s College GameDay did a feature on K-State quarterback Adrian Martinez during it’s Week 8 program from Eugene, Oregon.

The piece highlighted Martinez’s success thus far this season in Manhattan, as the Wildcats are 5-1 and ranked in the Top 20 ahead of Saturday night’s game at TCU. Martinez has yet to throw an interception this season after throwing 30 during his time in Lincoln. He’s even received Heisman odds at times this season.

The feature on GameDay discussed his struggles at Nebraska and his eventual move to Kansas State. During the conversation, Martinez discussed how rough things got in Lincoln, where he said, “It made it hard really to go to class. I didn’t want to go out in public to have all these people saying things about you. It affected how I thought about myself as a person.”

You can see the entire package here.

Martinez added, “I needed a new start. A fresh perspective and get away everything that had transpired there and do something different.”

Martinez and the Cats are on the verge of becoming bowl eligible, which he never accomplished during his time at Nebraska and are in the thick of the Big 12 Championship hunt at the halfway mark.

Kansas State vs. TCU kicks off at 7:00 p.m. CST in Fort Worth on Saturday night in a game that will go a long way in deciding who plays in the Big 12 Championship game.
