Baylor’s Dre’Una Edwards, Texas’ Aaliyah Moore on McClain Watch List

NCAA Basketball: Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

Two Big 12 players — Baylor forward Dre’Una Edwards and Texas forward Aaliyah Moore — are on the watch list for the 2023 Katrina McClain Award, given to the nation’s best power forward.

Edwards transferred to Baylor from Kentucky after last season. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 20.5 points during a 10-game winning streak last season, which included a career-high 30 points against Missouri. Last season she was Kentucky’s second-leading scorer, as she averaged 16.8 points per game off 44.1 percent shooting from the field.

Moore, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, dealt with injuries for part of last season, but came on late during the Longhorns’ NCAA Tournament run to the Elite Eight. Moore had a double-double — 18 points and 10 rebounds — in a first-round win over Fairfield and scored a season-best 21 points in the second-round game against Utah. For the season, she averaged 6.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.

The award is named for McClain, a two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year. The annual award in its sixth year recognizes the top power forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.

Previous winners of the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award are NaLyssa Smith, Baylor (2021-22), Ruthy Hebard, Oregon (2018, 2020) and Napheesa Collier, Connecticut (2019).
