Texas Tech Still Has Path to Play for Big 12 Championship

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at Texas Christian

When Lloyd Christmas confesses his love for Mary Swanson in Dumb & Dumber, she tries to let him down easy by telling him that there was a one-in-a-million chance that a guy like her and a girl like him would end up together.

Instead of getting discouraged, Lloyd proceeds to give us a line that has become the source of a million memes on Twitter, Instagram, or any other platform you choose to use.

“So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”

Well, Texas Tech might not have the best odds of making the Big 12, but they aren’t out of it yet, as RaiderTy points out on Twitter.

In order for Texas Tech to get in, nine out of the remaining 10 games must go one way, with the Iowa State-TCU game next week not having an impact on the conference race at that point.

If those games play out exactly right, it would force a tiebreaker scenario that would leave Texas Tech, by way of a head-to-head win over Texas, the beneficiary of a spot in the Big 12 Championship game against TCU.

Now, I will always level with you Tech fans. So, if you ask me, “what are our chances of this happening,” here is my answer.

About one out of a million, but, there is a chance.

For the time being, Tech will need to take care of business against Iowa State this week in Ames. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 6:00 p.m. CT on FS1.
