Big 12 Basketball

Texas Longhorns Daily Fantasy Picks vs. Gonzaga

The Texas-Gonzaga game is one of six games that are part of the Draft Kings Daily Fantasy Sports for men’s college basketball on Wednesday.

This season, when a Big 12 game is part of the pool at Draft Kings, we’ll provide our recommendations for who to take that night. In this case, the recommendations are for a Classic game, which features eight players — three guards, three forwards and two guard/forwards (utility). The lineup must contain players from at least two different games. The salary cap is $50,000.

For the purposes of nights that include Big 12 games, but not enough to fill out a complete Big 12 lineup, we’ll take a guard, a forward and a utility player from each Big 12 team and fill out the remainder of the lineup with players from the rest of the pool.

Here are Wednesday’s recommendations:

Guard: Sir’Jabari Rice ($5,200)

I’m taking the value here. Why? The fantasy points between Texas’ two other primary guards, Tyrese Hunter (24.5) and Marcus Carr (24.1) is just two points (Rice is averaging 22.3 per game). Now, we’re two games into the season and trends are hard to parse. But Rice is going to play plenty. He’s a tenacious rebounder from the perimeter and he can get you two or three assists. By the way, Hunter and Carr will cost you at least $2,000 more. Take Rice and save the cap space for a certain Gonzaga forward.

Forward: Dillon Mitchell ($5,200)

Again, I’m taking the value and the freshman in a big game. Miller isn’t scoring a lot yet, but he’s averaging one rebound more than he’s scoring through two games. Gonzaga is going to pay more attention to Timmy Allen inside and Allen will cost you $3,000 more in cap space. I think it’s possible that Mitchell could end up having his first big game offensive against Gonzaga, for the simple reason that the Bulldogs will want to account for Allen.

Utility: Dylan Disu ($4,900)

Like Mitchell, Disu is a forward that should benefit from the Bulldogs’ attentive defense on Allen. Disu has consistently averaged 17 points in two games. I could see him getting 20 or more here. He’ll need more rebounds, though.

The rest of the lineup

With $34,700 left over, this is how I would fill out my lineup with the remaining games in the pool — Michigan vs. Pittsburgh, Cincinnati vs. Northern Kentucky, Iowa vs. Seton Hall, South Dakota State vs. Arkansas and Virginia Commonwealth vs. Arizona State (as of Wednesday morning):

G – Julian Strawther, Gonzaga ($6,900)

G – Marques Warrick, Northern Kentucky ($7,600)

F – Makhi Mitchell, Arkansas ($5,000)

F – Viktor Lahkin, Cincinnati ($4,400)

UTIL – Drew Timme, Gonzaga ($10,500)

Scoring system: Point: +1 Pt; Made 3pt Shot: +0.5 Pts; Rebound: +1.25 Pts; Assist: +1.5 Pts; Steal: +2 Pts; Block: +2 Pts; Turnover: -0.5 Pts; Double-Double (Max 1 Per Player: Points, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks, Steals) +1.5 Pts; Triple-Double: Max 1 Per Player (Points, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks, Steals): +3 Pts
