Two of the nation’s top receivers reside in the Big 12 and they are being recognized as such with being named Biletnikoff Award Semifinalists.
Iowa State’s Xavier Hutchinson and TCU’s Quentin Johnston have been named semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, and running back), who is eligible to catch passes can win the award.
Xavier Hutchinson should be the favorite to win this award simply based on how important his role in the Iowa State offense is. The senior wideout for Iowa State has recorded 105 receptions for 1,160 yards and six scores in 2022 and has recorded 100 yards in seven of 11 games. This is especially impressive when you realize that the Cyclones offense is ranked dead last in the Big 12 in terms of scoring and total offense in 2022.
Quentin Johnston is a virtual lock to be selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft based on his intangibles alone, but when scouts turn on the film it becomes apparent that he will be a star at the next level. Johnston has 49 receptions for 764 yards and five scores in 2022 but has dealt with a nagging ankle injury over the second half of the season.
